Yoga in the Woods

About the classes

These classes are for all women from teens to any age.

They are about inclusivity; you do not need to have a regular practice to attend, or be a certain level of flexibility or fitness. They are simply about embracing how you are feeling that morning, setting up your day and weekend in the right way, making time for yourself and stretching your body as you connect with nature.

Practicing yoga outdoors offers a multitude of benefits, enhancing both physical and mental wellbeing beyond what's typically experienced in a studio. Some of the benefits include increased vitamin D intake, fresh air, an enhanced sensory experience, increased stress reduction and relaxation, a sense of freedom and spaciousness, improved mental health, and the potential for deep muscle engagement by practicing on uneven surfaces.

I run Yoga in the Woods classes on selected Saturday mornings in Spring, Summer and Autumn.

They take place in Wendover Woods, 08.15 - 09.30.

We meet at the Visitor Information Point at 08.10 and walk over to the first main flat area of grassland on the right-hand-side of the main pathway after Go Ape and the car-park.

What type of yoga do we practice in class?

There are many types of yoga, and these classes are a beautiful blend of different styles.

We incorporate hatha yoga (a physical and mental practice that aims to prepare the body and mind); vinyasa yoga (a faster-paced, aerobic-style workout where poses flow into one another); yin yoga (a meditative style that involves stretches and poses that help improve flexibility and mobility), and restorative yoga (focusing on winding down after a long week and relaxing the mind).

The energy and pace of the 75 min class will align with the current phase of the moon.

Each class has a different theme and concludes with a beautiful closing relaxation.

You can decide how you want to practice:

- focusing on the physical asanas (or postures) exclusively and how they make your body feel; or

- matching your breath to the movement; or

- aligning with your energy; or

- immersing yourself in the theme of the class; or

- thinking about how your mind feels as you take your body through a range of motion; or

- even thinking about how your soul feels and your connection to the outdoors.

To complete the form, please select either a single class or 4 week block. For the block option, select the first date and time you wish to start, then ‘select and make recurring’ to add  4 weeks. This system also allows you to remove dates you can’t make because of your own commitments.

Understandably due to the nature of the climate we live in, I cannot promise sunshine. The class will continue rain or shine so please dress appropriately. You might enjoy the elements and surprise yourself with an invigorating practice on those chillier October mornings.

If I consider it too dangerous to practice due to high winds or torrential rain I will contact you in advance via phone/email and you will be able to attend our women's evening class at Halton on a Monday in it’s place.

What happens if it rains?

What do I need to bring?

Please bring your own yoga mat and anything else you want for your practice like a thin blanket or coat for relaxation.

Any type of yoga mat will be fine; please don't feel that you have to spend a fortune before even attending the session.

I would advise that you bring a bottle of water and wear some loose comfortable clothes for your yoga practice, including layers so you can easily adjust depending on whether you are lying still in relaxation or being more physical.
